30 seconds warning before your conveyor starts

Prevent conveyor accidents. Comply with Mines Act 1952 and state factory rules.

Belt conveyors are one of the most accident-prone equipment categories in Indian industry. Workers perform maintenance, clearing, and inspection on or near a stationary conveyor — and are injured when it starts unexpectedly. A pre-start warning hooter gives workers time to clear before the belt moves.

The Mines Act 1952, most state factory rules, and site safety standards require audible warning before any conveyor start. The Conveyor Pre-Start Hooter provides this warning automatically — and physically prevents the conveyor from starting until the warning period has elapsed.

How the interlock works

1

Operator presses start

Operator activates the conveyor start command — from pendant, push button, or PLC.

2

Hooter activates

The start signal triggers the hooter's dry contact input. The hooter sounds immediately.

3

Warning period

The hooter sounds for the programmed duration — typically 30 seconds (configurable 10–60 seconds). A voice message or continuous tone warns workers in the area.

4

Relay closes

At the end of the warning period, the hooter's output relay closes — this relay is wired in series with the conveyor drive starter. Power can now flow to the motor.

5

Conveyor starts

The conveyor belt starts moving. Workers have had 30 seconds to clear the belt, nip points, and tail end.

Interlock, not just warning

Wiring the hooter relay in series with the conveyor starter means the conveyor physically cannot start during the warning period — not just that a warning sounds. This is the critical difference between a compliant installation and a box-ticking exercise.

Buyers ask us

Our conveyor is 400 metres long — one hooter is not enough
Correct. For long conveyors, multiple horn speakers are mounted at intervals along the conveyor length — typically one speaker every 50–100 metres. All speakers are driven by a single hooter unit via a horn driver amplifier. We design the speaker layout based on your conveyor length and ambient noise level.
Can the warning duration be adjusted on site?
Yes. The duration is set at the factory to your specification (standard: 30 seconds). On-site adjustment is possible via an internal timer setting — accessible with a screwdriver, no rewiring needed.
Does it work with our existing start/stop panel?
Yes — the hooter is wired in series between the existing start button and the motor starter. No changes to the existing panel are required. We supply a wiring diagram.
What about conveyors in underground mines?
Underground mine installations require flame-proof or increased safety (Ex e) rated equipment under CMRS approval. We supply CMRS-approved conveyor hooters for underground applications — specify at order.
Can it play a voice message instead of a tone?
Yes. The MT-PSH version plays a studio-recorded voice message. The standard version plays a continuous tone. Voice is preferred for compliance documentation and worker communication.
